Reasonable Behaviour
Stephen Morgan (2001)

Reasonable Behaviour was one of Stephen Morgan’s first solo exhibitions. It came at the time when he was working behind the bar at Wapping Food, The Wapping Project’s restaurant, while aspiring to forge a career in photography. Stephen had showed the body of portraits of boxers taken in Birmingham boxing gyms to Jules Wright, and she offered him the show.

Fifty images were printed large and hang along both sides of a narrow outside passage between the Wapping Hydraulic Power and the Shadwell Basin. The viewers had no option but to walk very close to the images and be confronted by the sweaty life-size young men looking directly at them.
